Great news—our Jeep is back! After a quick stop at the grocery store and a good test of the transmission and differential, we were finally able to explore Gallup, New Mexico.
However, being along Historic Route 66, not much of the road’s old charm remains. Everything is very clean and well-kept, but many historic buildings are gone, and the famous diners, colorful gas stations, and billboards are missing. You can still spot some old neon signs and murals here and there, but other towns like Kingman, Winslow, or Flagstaff have more to offer in that area. Maybe it was also the early time of year that many shops were still closed, and there weren’t many people around at 11 a.m. After a good 1 1/2-hour walk, we’re back in the RV, packing for our trip tomorrow.
Custer is calling. With 1 week delay we will continue heading up north.
