‍The first few weeks of our time here in Custer are already behind us.  Beate, Henna and I are making the most out of the Black Hills. We have experienced everything from snow in May to midsummer temperatures now in July. In addition to the breathtaking scenery and thousand of bison, deer, antelope, elk, and prairie dogs, it’s the camaraderie and friendship with our summer family that brings us back year after year. Already had some great parties and enjoyed great meals together with the campground’s regular staff and our long-term guests.
Don’t come here if you’re on a diet! Let me tell you.

As often as possible, we explore the nearby State and National Parks. Being so close to all the animals never ceases to fascinate us.

As a German living in this country, we often find ourself missing a Thuringian grilled Bratwurst.  The staple of German Fast Food! 12 inch long, in a crusty bun, just with mustard, and a German will dance for happiness. At least I will do!! We’ve been searching for years, but here in the western and southwestern parts of the U.S., we’ve always been unsuccessful. After watching several YouTube videos and making a few attempts, I can say that my grilled sausages taste just like they do back home. However, I still need to work a little on their shape and appearance. And this year, the owners of our campground provided me with a sausage stuffer. Now making sausages is really fun.

Our first guests this year have already experienced for themselves how wonderful it is to spend the summer here. We have welcomed Deb Hall and Max Snyder, Steve May, Petra and Bernhard Koelzer, and Willy and Dave Rypma to our campsite so far. And more are on the Horizon! So, we are not lonely!
